I was able to play 9 holes last Sunday afternoon and to hit some additional balls on Wednesday with the new clubs that you built me and all that I can say is wow! They look awesome at address, they feel really good, and they perform great. The distance control, trajectory, and dispersion with the irons are much better than anything that I have ever used. And the driver and 4 wood are long and straight. I reached the par 5 in two on Sunday in wet conditions and I very rarely even get there in two when the course is playing fast and dry. And the PM wedge is one ugly club but it performs beautifully around the greens. I can hit it high or low and it spins better than anything that I have hit since the groove change. You did an oustanding job with my fitting and with your recommendations for clubhead a and shafts. I am completely satisfied with this set. The only thing that I will probably do in the spring is have you build me an Apex hybrid, as I may want a little better gap between my 4 wood and my 4 iron. I also may do a putter fitting in the spring as well.

Hope things are going well there, and your golf game is superb, too. It’s been a good summer to get out and play.

 

Now that I’ve had a chance to  use my new clubs several times, thought I’d send you an update. I’m very pleased. And they seem to work for me very well.

 

I’m hitting the driver a good 20 yards further than I’ve hit it in any recent memory…and allows me to hit a green now and then in regulation, which I had stopped doing. I might be off the fairway by a yard or two on the drive, but otherwise, always as they say “on the short grass.” Makes for a very fun game.

 

The fairway woods are equally good, and hitting them a greater distance as well. Ditto for the hybrids…can hit the 5 hybrid as far as the 7 wood.

 

Irons are more dependable than they’ve ever been for me, only problem I have is that I hit them further than I think I’m going to. So hitting over the greens a fair amount, but that is just learning the right club. Good problem to have!

 

My scores have gone from the high 90’s to the low 90’s, and am confident I can get it lower from there. Need to improve on putting.

 

Anyway, wanted to say thanks, and to let you know that the new clubs have really worked well, and the game is much more fun.

The Callaway Mack daddy 2 wedges are great! All of them were spinning like crazy while the micro grooves on the face were there. Those dude where off pretty quickly, but the wedges still produce the amount of spin you would expect. The 52° wedge performs just like a higher lofted pitching wedge which is exactly what I wanted. The 56° C-grind has a great turf interaction. The real gem is the 60° U-grind. I use it from 100 yards and in. I can manipulate the face and create lots of shots around the green to really help me get up and down. If anybody is wanting to improve their short game, this is the best club I have ever used for learning to hit different shots around the green.

 

Also, the KBS 610 shafts are working great. I am having very little trouble flighting the ball down with a controlled amount of spin with this shaft/head combination.   Thanks

Sorry I have not gotten back to you sooner.  The hybrids are great. Lot easier to hit than long irons. The irons I am hitting a lot straighter.  Distance control is my biggest issue right now.  A lot of that has to do with my swing but it is getting better.  Did not play as much this fall as I wanted to but I am enjoying it more with the new irons.  Next the driver!

Don is really a great guy. His best trait is he listens to what you say to help you get into the correct clubs for yourself. Unlike some of the big box stores where you feel pressured into getting what they think is right for you without taking the time to really understand what you really need. I’ve gotten all of my clubs fit through Don. We are still experimenting with putters but all of the rest of my clubs are set. After two years of playing with the set that Don has created for me I’ve went from a 12 handicap to an 8 handicap. I have more confidence with the clubs Don has made because I know that they will respond exactly how my swing works. My game is more consistent. Working with Don has been a pleasure. For any person wanting to improve their games getting a new set of clubs or at least getting fit will help. Just learning things from the flight scope and the videos Don takes helps you overall understand more about your swing. The whole fitting session almost feels more like a lesson and a learning experience than just analyzation. Don takes his experience and helps you get to where you want to go. The only thing I wish is it was closer to my house. I drive an hour and a half to go see Don but its well worth it. Thanks Don!

I played my first round of golf today with my new clubs.  I really like them.  I’m hitting a high power fade with the driver; I think I need to tee ball lower as the ball seems to be making contact on upper part of the sweet spot.  I’m hitting the irons higher than old irons with a slight improvement in distance.  I really hit the 4 wood well and got close to the distance I’m looking for with that club.  I only hit the 5/6 hybrid once but got about 150; so that’s good.  I imagine if it was a little warmer the ball would be going further with all the clubs.  Bottom line is I think you built me the best clubs possible for my swing—which still needs some work.

Don, I’m sorry it took me so long to let you know how the clubs are working. The driver and fairway woods I absolutely love. I love the feel and distance I get from them. I rarely pull hook as did with my old set. I have not had to adjust the driver at all. It seems perfect. The 4 wood I hit far better than I did my old 3 wood and I’m more accurate. The mid-range irons I seldom use. I am either on or within wedge range on most holes. If I do have to use, them they perform adequately. Now the wedges – I am struggling with them. I don’t seem to have the distance I had with my old ones. I have played quite a few rounds and around the green is a challenge. Chipping and pitching was never my strong suit, so I am hoping the practice range will help me figure them out. I will keep you posted on how things go in the next month or so.

Thank you again for all the work you did on my set. Overall I am quite happy with the outcome.

The entire set that you made for me are perfect. I can tell a dramatic difference between the MOI and traditional swingweighting, and the MOI is definitely the way to go and is well worth the cost. The only thing that has surprised me is the increase in distance of about 5-7 yards (1/2 club) in my irons. I wasn’t expecting that much of an increase, but it seems to be a consistent increase in all of my irons. Is this a result of going to a little softer shaft than I had in my previous set, or from the MOI, or both? The driver and 3 wood are longer too, and much more consistent. The 2 iron hybrid which has the Dynamic Gold shaft has a softer feel, and the trajectory is a little higher than the rest of the set, but it is perfect for the application in which I utilize this club. This is hands down the best set of clubs that I have ever had. The experience has been overwhelmingly a positive one, and I have given your name out repeatedly to those that I come in contact with at my club. Your knowledge of the clubfitting and your craftsmanship is outstanding. Thank you again for all your work.

I took the driver to the range last night and had a blast.  Most shots were straight and long.  I pulled a few left, but didn’t slice a single ball.  I was hitting on the range at Indian Hills and on several shots it went over the fence and I could hear the ball hitting the trees.  Alan Stockman was there and guessed that I was hitting them 275.

Don, just an update,

Now that I’ve been using my new driver teed up at the correct height, my game is really taking off.  I’m able to use my “normal swing” with my driver, which I’ve never really been able to do before.

Before our fitting session, I had to adjust myself differently for my driver, than I did for my fairway woods and irons.  Since I’ve been fitted correctly, not only are my tee shots more consistently on the fairway, or at least “in play” in the first cut, but my fairway woods are more consistent as I’m able to setup consistently every time.  My drives are now as long, and sometimes longer, for those I play with in my age group (58), so I’m now more competitive as a social golfer.

I’ve dropped my GHIN handicap 2 strokes in the past month, since I’ve started using my new driver, and although we’re nearing the end of the golfing season in South Dakota, I’m playing with a confidence I never had before.

I’d probably have lowered my handicap even more, if I wasn’t wearing multiple layers of clothing and shivering from the cold we’ve had the past week.  It’s really difficult to putt when you can’t feel your fingers – lol

Forecast is warmer weather next week, so I’ll keep working at it=|;0)

My rough estimate from the GPS on the cart is a gain of 10 – 12 yards on average and 50% more fairways using my new driver.  As a matter of fact, I only had one drive with the new driver that could really be considered trouble (and it wasn’t a particularly good swing on my part), where I put myself in deep rough and / or trees with my old one 50% of the holes I used it on.

The fairway wood and I have been best friends for some time.  It has really been a reliable club for those times a 4 iron is not enough.  Long (about 200 yards give or take 15 yards) and straight.

The driver has taken a bit longer to get going well.  Some I attribute to setup (no red t square on the tee) and some I attribute to greed (no aim point about 6 feet ahead with a long open fairway ahead).  I managed to be on the 570 yard 5th (with water 40 to 50 yards short of the green) in regulation which is a first.  I have been able to control my greed and set up better with time for some really nice LONG and STRAIGHT drives.  The club championship is coming up the 24th and 25th and will be the real test. looking forward to that.

Hey Don, Just got your note, good time for an update. Previous not described playing in a 4-man scramble and using 75% of my shots. Then played with my golf team’s A player, 3 handicap, several times and made him shoot a 39 to beat my 40. (my first 40) Since then, I have made so many good shots that I don’t know how to react sometimes. Missed an 8 foot eagle putt, that would have been pretty cool. Played nine holes at the lake last month and if I would have made my birdie putt on nine, would have been my first 36, PAR. To be honest, Don, I didn’t expect this kind of results for maybe another year. Part of it is my swing is coming together, but most of these major improvements have happened since your fitting and the new clubs.  I can’t express to you how much my game has come around. I could go on and on, but I am a very slow typist and I have to go to work tomorrow. It was the most rewarding thing that I have ever done for myself. Just a short note concerning the status of the clubs that you fitted and built for me.

I am extremely satisfied with the entire set of clubs (4-PW and driver) that you built for me and that words cannot describe the enjoyment and anticipation I once again have for the game.  I was so frustrated with my old set of clubs that I almost had given up hope of ever playing a good round of golf again. I change clubs every 2 or 3 years and my old set of clubs (premium high profile and marketed) were so mismatched for my swing it’s a wonder I was able to break 90.  I was very inconsistent from iron to iron and I could not figure out what had happened to my overall game.

Getting fitted in the winter (February and March) gave me some concerns but so far I am satisfied. Especially with the feel and consistent distance between them and I am hitting the clubs so much more solid that I cannot wait to get outside.

Our courses in northeastern Wisconsin are not open yet. I have hit them inside and am playing rounds at various courses using my club’s simulator. My wife and I are flying to phoenix in mid April and playing a few rounds of golf which will be first real test for new clubs.

I will keep you apprised of the results and probable handicap changes throughout the year.

Kolt played his first round with the new driver.  The average distance with the old driver was 208 yds. His longest drive was 238 [with the help of a cart path].

Yesterday he averaged 231 yds. His longest drive was 258 [right down the middle].  He had a couple in the 240’s.  The shorter one’s were not the clubs fault.  We will call it “operator error”.  Now it is a matter of becoming more consistent.

He is able to shape it pretty well on the range but is not confident enough yet to try it on the course.  It will come.

Thanks for giving Kolton the equipment to reach his full potential.  To say we are pleased is an understatement.  At this point I don’t think we need to make any adjustments.  I will keep you posted.

I use the 16.5 on the long par fours and on all of the par fives.  It preforms admirably.

The 7 and 9 woods are really good as well.  I really get the ball up and get imediate and high loft.

I will have to agree with you that you could put the “scratch” wedges up against any of the high marketed wedges.  I have also had excellent preformence with the 5 – 9 irons.

I wanted to send you a note and let you know how much I LOVE these Scratch Golf Wedges. The 54 and the 58 have significantly improved my shortgame, and I love the way they feel, both out of the rough, and the sand.

The Digger/Driver sole you recommended is perfect, since that is how I come through the ball. I have holed out more times this year than ever before. In the Green Hills Amateur, when Tom Portner was making a charge, I knocked it in from 55 yards to stay in the lead, which I never relinquished. Playing with my wife the next weekend, I made it from 79 yards on 15 for another eagle, and a skin, and several times I’ve holed it from the greenside bunkers.

I would recommend these wedges to anyone looking to keep his/her shortgame sharp, but only after you fitting them like you did mine. We bent some lofts and lies, got them where I wanted them, and I will never give them up, until they need replaced with new Scratch Golf Wedges from Country Acres Golf!

I know you think I forgot, but thats not true. I am a result orientated person and I took the time to play with my new clubs to determine if in fact they would really improve my game.

First and foremost Don, I have been fitted at big box stores and I have to tell you they did nothing like we did at the fitting.

Don, I am here to tell the world this was the best thing I have ever done since taking up the game of golf. I know and can see the results of all the work and preparation put into the fittings for the driver, irons and last but not least the putter.

I have to admit that you were correct about all of it. I have shaved 4 strokes a game off and thats just with the putter. My fellow golfers all comment on my ability to keep the driver in play without any loss off distance. It also makes it so much easier when you know exactly how far your ball will carry when playing over hazzards.

Now the biggest change of all has come from my irons, I am so much more accurate and consistent and my misses are a lot closer causing more pars and even birdies. I also have to thank you for your recommendation about the hybrid 4 and 5 irons, best decision made was to go with them.

I am extremely satisfied with the entire set of clubs that you built for me and words cannot describe the enjoyment I once again have for the game.  I was so frustrated with my old set of clubs that I almost had given up hope of ever playing a good round of golf again.  My old set of clubs were so mismatched for my swing it’s a wonder I was able to break a 100.  I was so inconsistent I could not figure out what had happened to my overall game.

Your knowledge about the swing was evident from my first putter and iron fitting.  I know it wasn’t pretty (my swing) but somehow you gathered all of the information you needed (I still don’t know how) but you made recommendations on shaft and head style.  You built a 7 iron for me to try to make sure we were on target.  It took me awhile to get my swing together but it was evident that the new club was just what was needed.  I hit it better than any club I had in the bag and I even joked with my friends that it was the only club I would use to play a round of 18 holes.  I couldn’t wait to get the rest of the set but the wait was worth it!!!

My new clubs are a mixed set that I just love; Wishon Driver and Fairway Woods with Aldila NVS shafts, Wishon 3 & 4 hybrids with Wishon shafts, Infinity 5-PW irons with KBS shafts and Scratch Wedges (Gap and Sand) with FST High Rev shafts.  My first round of 18 I shot 79 and had not shot in the 70’s for 3 or more years.  I continue to get used to the new clubs and I can say that I have not hit the ball as far or as straight for more than ten years.  Am I satisfied?  Absolutely!!

The entire set that you made for me are perfect. I can tell a dramatic difference between the MOI and traditional swing weighting, and the MOI is definitely the way to go and is well worth the cost.
The only thing that has surprised me is the increase in distance of about 5-7 yards (1/2 club) in my irons. I wasn’t expecting that much of an increase, but it seems to be a consistent increase in all of my irons. Is this a result of going to a little softer shaft than I had in my previous set, or from the MOI, or both? The driver and 3 wood are longer too, and much more consistent. The 2 iron hybrid which has the Dynamic Gold shaft has a softer feel, and the trajectory is a little higher than the rest of the set, but it is perfect for the application in which I utilize this club. This is hands down the best set of clubs that I have ever had. The experience has been overwhelmingly a positive one, and I have given your name out repeatedly to those that I come in contact with at my club. Your knowledge of the clubfitting and your craftsmanship is outstanding. Thank you again for all your work.

Got back from Texas where I played for 6 days. I like the new clubs and they went straight when I made good swings. Got to work on the swing which we talked about when I was at the fitting. I would like to add a 5 wood  to my bag, I think you said that you could make me one from the fitting.
